Buccaneer. For 40 years the Buccaneer name has been synonymous with uncompromising quality. It is the ‘Luxury’ marque from the Explorer Group.

This range of ‘wow-factor’ caravans offers a tiled-effect shower, heated towel rail, ceramic toilet, remote control automatic rain sensitive rooflight and more besides. There’s even 24-hour radiator central heating which, along with the hot water system, can be controlled remotely from your mobile phone.

For 2011 Buccaneer has introduced Grade lll thermal insulation for all-weather comfort, new exterior graphics, a satellite dish as standard, a Suretrack tracker system, external shower/rinse, Diamond Standard wheel lock(s), deeper lockers and more.

The Buccaneer range includes models with island double, side double and twin single fixed bed designs .

Caravelair. This long-established French brand offers a wide range of models, only some of which are available in the UK. All models are relatively light in weight for their size, which makes them easy to tow.

The Antares is a budget-priced caravan that won’t need a huge tow car. The interior is a bit basic, but its well-built and the sub-£10,000 price means it provides a very realistic alternative to buying second-hand. It’s a great choice for first-time buyers.

The Ambiance is also light enough for a medium-size tow car and has a little more finesse for the extra money.

Venicia models have more of a luxury feel and there’s a model with a superb wraparound seating arrangement.

Carousel Slimline. Folding caravans are easy and economical to tow and will normally fit into a domestic garage. This is especially so of the Carousel Slimline which has been specifically designed for situations where storage space considerations are paramount.

These 2-berth lightweights offer two single beds or a kingsize double and can be towed by all but the smallest cars. There are three models, all with furniture in light walnut finish. There’s wall-to-wall carpet, deep-buttoned upholstery, an Electrolux fridge and a combination sink/cooker unit incorporating a 2 or 3 burner hob. A hot water system and blown air heating are optional extras.

Only the Slimline 12/2T has a washroom/toilet and, on this model, a shower can be fitted as an optional extra.

Carousel Standard Width. With an exterior width of only 2.08m these folding caravans can be stored in a garage or under a car port and are very economical and easy to tow.

There are models for between two and four people and with or without washroom/toilet. Only models with a washroom can be fitted with a shower (optional extra). A hot water system and blown air heating are also extras.

All models have a 60 litre Electrolux fridge as standard, plus a combination sink/cooker incorporating a 3-burner hob.

Because these folding caravans are comparatively light in weight, they don’t need a large tow vehicle.

Carousel Clubman. With the same body width as ‘Standard’ models plus 40cm extra length, these are the folding caravans for people who want extra space.

As with other Carousel models, the Clubman and Clubman L fold down for storage in most domestic garages or under a car port and are easy and economical to tow.

Both models have a washroom/toilet, although a fitted shower is an optional extra, as are a hot water system and blown air heating. The ‘L’ shaped seating arrangement of the Clubman L gives a feeling of extra space.

You don’t need a large vehicle to tow these.
